I am just back from vacation. It was an unusual one for us as we did not travel. This was a true staycation. Having experienced water damage in our home, we found ourselves living at another house while the repairs were being made. During that hiatus, I had an opportunity to truly appreciate all that God had given me. I longed to be back in our home with all its comforts.
On Sunday night, my siblings met on a zoom call to relay their birthday wishes to me. A question was raised, tell me about Michelle as a young girl. The stories that were told, had us all in stitches. I forgot what a “tomboy” I was. Stories were told of me climbing on the roof and I remember this one; when I broke my hand and in those days ended up in the hospital for three weeks. My niece was so surprised to hear of my escapades. It was such fun! My poor mother and father!!
We are preparing for the coming of baby Jesus. And I wonder what baby Jesus would be like? He is no ordinary baby. He is not the mischievous child. Can we fully prepare for all that is Jesus the Christ?
In this upcoming week’s readings, the collect begs that “your Son Jesus Christ, at this coming, may find in us a mansion prepared for himself.”
“Find in us a mansion prepared for himself,” carries an enormous amount of weight with it. What do we carry in our mansions?
Love
Compassion
A Sense of Justice
Forgiveness
Courage
Hope
Joy
Or are we struck with
Bitterness
Anger
What if
Or should have’s
Resentment
Changing our mansions takes a deliberate effort. It is taking stock, cleaning house and clearing away “the stuff” that is holding us back from the joy of knowing Jesus Christ.
How will you prepare your mansion for baby Jesus? It is time to get the broom! Jesus is coming, get busy!
The song I chose for this week is "Mary did you know.....?
This song captures the divinity and majesty of Jesus that is to come. May we look forward to his coming with great anticipation and excitement.
