Who likes to dance? Me!! I am teased for being the first one on the dance floor. There is just something about music that stirs the soul!
What if we adapted this same spirit to our church worship! What if we rejoiced at the singing of the praise at the Gloria or if we put our hands in the air as we sang, “Savior like a sheep lead us! Or we belted out “Tell out my soul the greatest of the Lord.” Music has such a way of transcending our souls and taking us to greater heights of praise and worship.
In some cultures, dancing in church is part of their liturgical experience; and some other cultures prefer a quieter way to worship. Is one right or wrong? No!
In response to the wonders, the miracles and the goodness of God, as far back as the children of Israel, danced to show their appreciation to God.
Below are two verses from 2 Samuel 6
5 David and all the people of Israel were celebrating before the Lord, singing songs and playing all kinds of musical instruments—lyres, harps, tambourines, castanets, and cymbals.
2 Samuel 6:14
David danced before the Lord with all his might; David was girded with a linen ephod. So David and all the house of Israel brought up the ark of the Lord with shouting, and with the sound of the trumpet.
David, accompanied by thirty thousand men, brought the Ark of God from Baale-judah to Jerusalem. They were so overjoyed in their celebration, they brought with them musical instruments and songs to accompany them on their journey. The Ark of God symbolized the presence of God. And they rejoice as they travel with the Ark. David is bursting with joy as he senses the presence of God.
The Psalms are filled with snippets of joy as the writer reveals his heart.
Ps. 16:9 Therefore my heart is glad, and my soul rejoices.
Paul in the New Testament encourages our joy and rejoicing in the Lord.
Phil 4:4 Rejoice in the Lord always; again I will say, Rejoice.
As Christians we should have a little pep in our step. Because we worship a living God who cares for His own. I pray you will turn your steps of worry into steps of joy and rejoicing as you think anew on what the Almighty can do.
