See God's Beauty

Sharing Thought by Sue Russell

“They say you can tell a great deal about a person by the way he decorates his/her house, or the clothes he/she wears. Somehow, I have occasionally gotten the impression from people that God must like black, white and grey. However, if we look at His world, we find such a variety of color and vividness, it is beyond description. Jesus said the raiment provided for the lilies of the field made Solomon look shabby, and he was hardly a conservation decorator.

28 “And why do you worry about clothes? See how the flowers of the field grow. They do not labor or spin. 29 Yet I tell you that not even Solomon in all his splendor was dressed like one of these. Matt 6:28-29

In our world colors change by season, time of day and location. The glisten of moonlight on arctic snow shines differently than moonlight on a tropical island. In the early evening, there is a time when the light hits a certain way called “sidelighting” when everything seems to shimmer.

What does this tell me about God? It tells me that He loves beauty. From Psalm 96:2-6

Sing to the Lord, bless his name;

    tell of his salvation from day to day.

 Declare his glory among the nations,

    his marvelous works among all the peoples.

 For great is the Lord, and greatly to be praised;

    he is to be revered above all gods.

  For all the gods of the peoples are idols,

    but the Lord made the heavens.

 Honor and majesty are before him;

    strength and beauty are in his sanctuary.

He takes great care with the smallest details in His creation. The extent of his creativeness is unlimited. By taking time to observe and think about the marvelous beauty surrounding us, we can grow in knowledge of the wonderful generosity of the creator.

Could we take the time during this season of Lent to closely examine God's creativity? What if we listen as we walk outside and look to see the birds in the air, or see the squirrels as their little feet run along the mess of the lanais. There is movement of nature all arounds us. Spend this time aware of beauty, of God's beauty around us.

Enjoy!
