Faith By Not Seeing

“I believe in Christianity as I believe that the sun has risen: not only because I see it, but because by it I see everything else.” ~ C.S. Lewis

I thought this quote from C S Lewis was quite telling. It reminded me of Sunday’s gospel when the other disciple whom Jesus loved, went to the tomb. It read, “8 Then the other disciple, the one who arrived at the tomb first, also went inside. He saw and believed.”

Could I say that because of his wholehearted belief, the other disciple was brought to faith, faith in a Risen Lord.

In Hebrews 11:1-3 NLT we discover Paul’s view of faith.

11 Faith shows the reality of what we hope for; it is the evidence of things we cannot see. 2 Through their faith, the people in days of old earned a good reputation.3 By faith we understand that the entire universe was formed at God’s command, that what we now see did not come from anything that can be seen.

Faith requires more than mere seeing. Our response to what happened on the cross comes from faith.  Faith requires that we take Jesus, his life, his way of teaching, his resurrection into our very being, way beyond thoughts and seeing. Faith must sink into our hearts. It is only in our hearts that Jesus can come alive.

C. S. Lewis is telling us that with our faith in Jesus, things, life becomes clearer. What clarity are you seeking today? Here is another Easter going by. Has the reminder that Jesus died on the cross for you made a difference in your life? Do not let another Easter go by without seeing differences in the way you think and act. Because of your Christian belief I pray your eyes are open to see the Hand of God at work in your life. May it influence everything you do!
