The prophet Isaiah foretold; Isaiah 53:11
After he has suffered,
he will see the light of life and be satisfied;
by his knowledge my righteous servant will justify many,
and he will bear their iniquities.
Paul in his letter to the Hebrews confirmed it was Jesus that Isaiah prophesied about so many centuries before. Hebrews 12 tell us;
let us throw off everything that hinders and the sin that so easily entangles. And let us run with perseverance the race marked out for us, 2 fixing our eyes on Jesus, the pioneer and perfecter of faith. For the joy set before him he endured the cross, scorning its shame, and sat down at the right hand of the throne of God. 3 Consider him who endured such opposition from sinners, so that you will not grow weary and lose heart.
Helen Lemmel penned the words to "Turn your eyes upon Jesus," after reading a gospel tract "Focused" by Lillian Trotter. Lemmel, a gifted singer, published the hymn in 1918. She wrote some 500 hymns and died in 1961 in Seattle.
Turn your eyes upon Jesus
Look full in His wonderful face
And the things of earth will grow strangely dim
In the light of His glory and grace
Oh soul are you weary and troubled?
No light in the darkness you see?
There's light for a look at the Savior
And life more abundant and free
How do we traverse the times in which we live? We are all dealing with personal problems in addition to what is taking place around us. How do we keep anxiety or worry or anger from over taking us? We turn our eyes upon Jesus. We take in His peace, His compassion and His love. We remember the price He paid on the cross for us. And we realize that we can keep going. That we can move forward towards the prize of a deeper relationship with Jesus. That we can have joy in our lives.
Let us not grow weary and lose heart! Jesus is alive in our hearts and He will never leave us or forsake us.
