Thankfully Giving to God

From: Christ Church Pledge Letter

When I explain what I like best about Christ Church,

I mention the ____worship service___________ and the ___outreach to the community____.

 That’s what makes it such a ____inspirational________ place for me

and ___encouraging__________. “____Exciting__________!, it

sounds like a ___great___ church,” they exclaim.

I hope you have started filling out your pledge letter. This exercise makes you think about your church. What does coming to Christ Church mean to you? Is it helpful? Has it made a difference in your life?

Filling out this letter allows us to quickly bring to mind how to speak about our church to anyone we meet. What words would you use to describe your church? If you are not excited about your church then you cannot get others excited about your church and their walk with Jesus Christ.

I often think of the enduring goodness of God which sustains us each and every day. It’s like when God told the people of Israel that He would provide manna for them during their time in the wilderness. They were not to store it up for they would see manna coming from heaven each morning.

From Exodus 16:4,35 “Then the Lord said to Moses, “I am going to rain bread from heaven for you, and each day the people shall go out and gather enough for that day. The Israelites ate manna forty years, until they came to a habitable land; they ate manna, until they came to the border of the land of Canaan.”

Since God takes care of us, we give back to Him our worship, prayers, honor and stewardship. And he  sends more blessings our way.

The letter gets right down to our role in the service of God.

“What does it take to make it all happen? “Well, we need

____dedicated________ people and a _____supporting_____ budget of

 $150,000,” I answer. After rental income, that would be $75 a week per pledging unit. And I

realize that without my ___contribution______ the church couldn’t possibly ____provide_____

 such ____meaningful_____ ministries. And that’s why this year, I’m going to

____ enthusiastically_____ pledge $____________ to Christ Church.

As we gather once again to celebrate thanksgiving with family and friends dear, let us remember the One for whom our thanks must go.

God of the harvest, once again

     Our joyful tones we raise,

    For all Thy goodness, day by day,

     We give Thee thankful praise.

    With blessings rich, from fertile field,

     And gifts from fruitful tree,

    We wish, this day, our thanks to yield

     With earnest hearts, to Thee.

    The sun with grateful heat did shine;

     The dew did nightly fall;

    And now, for loaded tree and vine -

     We give Thee thanks for all.

    Then let us sing with earnest hearts,

     Tho' joyful be each lay,

    And thankful ev'ry song that starts

     On this Thanksgiving Day.
