The Bells

Bells are rung to get our attention and the ringing of the bells on Christmas morning signified that something important had taken place. Sue Russell shares her thoughts about what took place.

Sharing Thoughts from Sue Russell

Christmas is almost here. There are twinkling lights on houses, Christmas trees in windows, people frantically shopping, songs of Frosty the Snowman and Jingle Bells, But wait, is that all there is?

Let us be still for a moment and remember a baby boy born in a stable from a young virgin mother – what! – yes and sleeping in a manger. This baby is God’s precious son, born holy and without sin. He will cause the blind to see, the lame to walk and the leper to be clean.  When he is still a young man, he will die a cruel death nailed, yes, nailed, to a cross; taking our sin on himself so we will not be punished and can go home to our Heavenly Father.

But, at this time we honor his birth. He is a newborn baby, small, helpless and needing the care of his young mother Mary. Who can look at him and not feel their hearts warm? This baby is so precious, God’s beloved son coming to dwell with us.

Let us enjoy our Christmas holiday, but let us not forget the reason – God’s Son, Jesus, has come to be with us and save us.

A Mighty Savior is born with very little fanfare. The only noise was probably that of the animals shifting to make room for this mother and father and their newborn. And the cries of the newborn baby as it tried to adjust to its new surroundings outside the womb.

As mundane as it seemed, it was a glorious night all beautifully coordinated and brought together by His Father - The Lord God Almighty.

May the ringing of the bells this Christmas morning, alert you that something significant has taken place - the birth of the Christ Child. Let his life make a difference in your hearts.
